1830 1C Large Letters, N-8, R.1, MS64 Red and Brown NGC. Our EAC Grade AU58. The obverse of this Choice Red and Brown cent displays intermingled bluish-steel and olive toning with considerable faded mint red. The reverse is mostly chestnut-brown with splashes of original mint color. A few scattered marks and a trace of high-point rub appear on both sides. Variety: This early die state example shows a trace of recutting along the left upright of the 1. Population Data (3/15): For all varieties, NGC reports only three submissions in Red and Brown, including this example, one other MS64, and one MS65. Heritage Commentary: The N-8 is by a slight margin the most plentiful variety of 1830 large cents. Provenance: Stack's (1/2002), lot 789.
